The body was found on a sand bar about a half-mile south of the place where it sank, and was discovered by Nicholas Willems, the young man's father, and Emmett Willems, his brother. The coroner was called and the body was later removed to the G.A. Stephan undertaking parlors, where it was prepared for burial. Although decomposition had developed, relatives and friends were able to recognize the body. Funeral services were conducted at Riverview cemetery Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock, Rev. Elvin Danlois of the Christian church officiating. The Moose and Maccabee lodges gave their ritualistic services and a double male quartet furnished music. In spite of the fact that the funeral was held shortly after the finding of the body, a large crowd was in attendance, and the floral offerings were many. Willems was twenty-five years of age and was a native of Monticello. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Willems and besides his parents is survived by his wife and two sons, aged six and four years. He is also survived by two brothers, Emmett and John Willems, and one sister, Mrs. George Landis, all of whom reside in this city; also two half-brothers and a half-sister. The unfortunate man was drowned while employed with the contractor on the Norway dam. With W.Q. Bodfish, he was attempting to stretch a rope across the river, when the boat capsized and both men were thrown into the water. Willems had reached the willows near the bank and had secured a hold when the men on shore went to the assistance of Bodfish, who was being carried farther down stream, when they heard cries from Willems. On looking around they were unable to see him and although efforts have been made since then to find the body, no trace of it was found until Sunday morning. The tragedy occurred during the high water and great difficulty was experienced in searching for the body.
