Description	:	FLORENCE - Charles Meyer Ellis, 84, died Feb. 6, 1998, in a Florence hospital after an illness. A native of Allendale County, he was a son of the late E.W. Ellis, M.D., and Mabel Heathe Ellis. He retired in 1976 after 42 years with Life of Georgia, where he was a district manager. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Omar Temple of the Shrine for 50 years. He was a past District Governor of Kiwanis and helped organize the Pee Dee Kiwanis Club. He also was past president of Life Underwriters Association. He was an active leader... Read More	FLORENCE - Charles Meyer Ellis, 84, died Feb. 6, 1998, in a Florence hospital after an illness. A native of Allendale County, he was a son of the late E.W. Ellis, M.D., and Mabel Heathe Ellis. He retired in 1976 after 42 years with Life of Georgia, where he was a district manager. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Omar Temple of the Shrine for 50 years. He was a past District Governor of Kiwanis and helped organize the Pee Dee Kiwanis Club. He also was past president of Life Underwriters Association. He was an active leader and past deacon of the First Baptist Church in Florence. He also served as deacon of the First Baptist Church in Kingstree. He served as chairman of the board of deacons at the First Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stroud Ellis of Florence; a daughter, Peggy Clary of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Dr. Charles Ellis Jr. of Chester, Va.; a stepdaughter, Susan Williamson of Florence; two stepsons, Kenneth Grimsley Jr. of Murrells Inlet and Paul S. Grimsley of Hampstead, N.C.; a brother, Dr. Archie Ellis of Tryon, N.C.; a sister, Marian Yahres of Coraopolis, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
