Read More	NOTE:Mr. Wood's date of birth is calculated from his age on his headstone. ANOTHER VICTIM The Cars Kill a Man In the South Omaha Stock Yards At 5:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon, Charles M. Wood was killed by the cars on the stock yards switch connecting with the B. & M. track. Stock train No. 14, for the B. & M., was being pushed out to the B. & M. yards by one of the stock yards locomotives and when about one hundred and fifty yards south of the trestle, the front car struck Mr. Wood, knocking him down and killing him almost instantly. The body became tangled with the brake and the axle and was carried and dragged along about three hundred yards. When the train was stopped he was dead. The coroner was summoned, who empaneled a jury, who returned the following verdict: "That the said Charles Wood came to his death by being struck by train No. 14, being transferred to the B. & M. Railway company by a Union stock yards engine, on March 2, 1889, at about 5 o'clock p. m., and according to the evidence before us, we blame said Union Stock Yards Railway company for the death of said Charles Wood." The body was removed to Brewer & Sullivan's undertaking rooms and dressed and the county authorities notified. Mr. Wood was thirty-one years old and leaves a wife and three children in needy circumstances. About five months ago, Mr. Wood removed from Dunlap, Iowa, and during the greater part of the time, he has been out of work. His venerable father resides near here and is a watchman at the Newcomb lumber yards. Published in The Omaha Daily Bee (Omaha, Nebraska) on Sunday, March 3, 1889. SOUTH OMAHA John F. Boyd's Views Manager John F. Boyd, of the Union Stock Yards company, on being asked about the unfortunate killing Charles M. Wood, Saturday, was surprised at the verdict of the coroner's jury, and said: "There can be no blame attached to the company or any of its employees in this matter. The man was clearly a trespasser, and more than that, we can show by at least two witnesses that Mr. Wood had been warned to get off the track. The verdict will cut no figure anyway. Why the coroner did not subpoena the men who saw the accident, not one of whom was sworn or testified before the jury, I cannot understand. A number of men were on the train. Conductor Norton notified Mr. Wood to get off the track just before he was struck. Engineer McLennan and Fireman Watts, of B. & M. engine No. 202, standing just above to take the train, must have seen the accident, and are said to have seen the man hit, were not before the jury. Before any verdict finding persons guilty of offenses should be made, at least all persons cognizant of the facts should testify. Again, to weaken the force of this singular and, to me, unrighteous verdict, I have been informed and believe that the verdict was written by a person not a member of the jury." Wood arrived here and yesterday the body of her husband was taken to Dunlap, Iowa for interment. Mrs. Wood and her children will go home with her brother and remain there. A collection of $14 was taken up in the Presbyterian church for Mrs. Charles M. Wood. The body of Charles M. Wood was forwarded to Dunlap, Iowa yesterday for interment. Manager Boyd generously offered to bear all expenses of the funeral and furnish transportation to and from Dunlap for all who wanted to attend the funeral. Wood, who was killed recently at South Omaha by a B. & M. tock train being run out the switch by Union Stock Yards engine No. 2, was made happy the other day by the generosity of Manager John F.
