Description	:	Son of Otis and Effie Mattox Snethen. Education was one of Charles' earliest interests, starting at Downey School and he later received a diploma from Lamoni High School. His education continued at Graceland College (AA), and the University of Kansas (BS). Following graduation, he served in the Army for 2 years during the Korean War where he was stationed in Spokane, Washington. In Spokane, Charles met Jacqueline Bernice Downing to whom he was united in marriage on October 24, 1954. They were blessed with five children: Jeanine, Janelle, Julia, Charles Mark, and Craig. Charles finished his education at the University of Missouri-Columbia, earning a masters degree in education and a doctoral degree in education.. Charles was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha social fraternity, and the Phi Delta Kappa professional honor society. Charles was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ, serving in various ministerial roles, including pastor at the congregations in Columbia, MO. and later in Andover, MO. Charles served in his community as the school board president for North Harrison School District; an active member of the Optimist Club, serving previously as the President in Columbia, Mo., and recently a chapter member in Lamoni, IA; and for many years coordinated the food booth at the Blythedale Fair. As his children were growing up he was also active as a cub scout leader and participated in youth ministries. Charles hobbies and interests were vast, and included: Gardening, plants, birds, wildlife, collecting rocks, crocheting, woodwork, quilting, cooking, and reading. Charles was a cherished husband to his wife of 58 years, Jackie Snethen of Harrison County; and revered father to his 5 children: Jeanine & Jim Bradley; Janelle & Jamie Varvaro; Julia Snethen & Manny Reyes; Mark Snethen & Deanna Foss; and Craig & Karen Snethen; 16 grandchildren and 5 grandchildren-in-laws; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters Talitha, Mary Ellen Silver, Kay Herring, Fay Andrews, Veneta Snethen and Philinda Snethen; sister-in-law Diane Snethen, Irene Evans, & Dorothy Downing; brother-in-laws Bill Downing, Gary Silver, Bob Evans, & Mike Andrews; nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and numerous friends.
