Born February 12, 1872, in Miami county, Ohio, he came to this county and settled in the Four Mile community in 1883. He was married to Nannie May Eckert in Council Grove February 19, 1902. Survivors include Harold Cress of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Mrs. Carol Hay of Springfield, Ill., and Keith Cress, of Washington, D.C.,; and the following brothers and sisters: Addie Pickett of Council Grove, J. A. Cress of Humboldt, A. V. Cress of Council Grove, Harry Cress of Flagstaff, Ariz., W. W. Cress of Council Grove and F. W. Cress of Flagstaff.
