Description	:	Charles P. Powell, 77, of Pemaquid Trail died Saturday at home. Born in Needham, Mass., a son of Perry and Etta Pfeifer Powell, he graduated from Needham High School and earned an engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1942. He was a life member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Following his graduation, Mr. Powell worked in the mechanical division at the Panama Canal for 1 1/2 years, and entered the Army during World War II. Powell, 77, of Pemaquid Trail died Saturday at home. Born in Needham, Mass., a son of Perry and Etta Pfeifer Powell, he graduated from Needham High School and earned an engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1942. He was a life member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Following his graduation, Mr. Powell worked in the mechanical division at the Panama Canal for 1 1/2 years, and entered the Army during World War II. He fought in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division. On May 12, 1942, he married Pauline Nichols at Needham Baptist Church. Mr. Powell was a project engineer for several corporations, including Chult Peabody Co. in Troy, N.Y., and Draper Corp. of Hopedale, Mass. He retired in 1980 from Rockwell International. He and his wife came to Pemaquid permanently in 1980 after spending many summers here. Mr. Powell was a skier and a charter member of the Needham (Mass.) Ski Club. He was also a master wood craftsman and was noted for his Shaker-style furniture creations. He also built miniature ships, sometimes taking up to two years to complete one. A son, Gregory, died in 1962. He is survived by his wife of Pemaquid Trail; a daughter, Janice of Kennebunkport; two sons, Stephen of Atkinson, N.H., and Dennis of Billingham, Mass.; and a brother, Walter of Thomaston. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bristol Mills Congregational Church. Burial will be in New Harbor Cemetery in the spring.
