Read More	Peoples Banner (David City, Nebr.), October 22, 1942, p. 1, col. 7 Obituary CHARLES PETER HANEY Aviation Cadet Charles Peter Haney, son of John and Minnie Haney, was born on a farm north of Rising City, Sunday, March 23, 1919, and died at Camp Forrest, Tenn., Sunday, October 11, 1942 at 10 A. M. Death was due to complications following an operation for appendicitis. He had been ill for two and one-half weeks. On hearing of his illness, his brother, Harold went to Tennessee and was with him at the time of his death. Charles Haney attended the Rising City High School where he graduated with the class of 1936. He taught school for one year at District 64 and attended Kearney State Teachers College. In his Junior year at college he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force and was called to active service, August 21, 1942. He was stationed at Nashville, Tennessee. Survivors besides his parents, include three brothers and five sisters, Everett of Rising City; Mrs. Mary Beebe, Rising City; Miss Mildred Haney, Linwood; Mrs. Margaret Cady, Columbus; Mrs. Helen Rozanek, David City; Miss Jean Haney, Brainard; Harold Haney and Thomas Haney aslo three nieces and three nephews. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Church in David City, on Friday, October 17. Reverend Father Murphy sang the requiem high mass. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery with full military honor conducted by the American Legion. Aviation Cadet Gordon Smith, Guard of Honor, who accompanied the body from Tennessee presented the flag to Mrs. Haney. Pallbearers were Richard Grubaugh, Leo Kelley, Wayne Schmid, Joseph Snedaker, Dan Fitzpatrick and John Kelley. Relatives attending from a distance were: David Haney of Denver; Eugene Haney, Council Bluffs; Mary M. Mulgrue of Lincoln; John Branigan, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Snedeker and family of Columbus; Mr. and Mrs. Morris Johnson of Stromsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Powers and Mrs. Frank Gunderson of Bellwood; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Minnick of Octavia; Mrs. Bernard Parolek and son of Fremont. Charles was of a cheerful and social disposition and left many friends who mourn his untimely passing. Everything was done for him that good doctors and nurses could do during his illness. ______________ CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our deep appreciation for the many acts of kindness, expressions of sympathy, floral offerings and spiritual bouquets at the time of the death of our beloved son and brother, Charles.
