The mother died in 1920 and was buried in the Stop Table Cemetery. Don't know much about what the family did then. They lived near or at Wood River, Nebraska and then moved to western Nebraska near Grant, Nebraska. Charles probably worked for a cousin, Bill Coller who had married Martha Stubbert which is where he met Susan. They then went to Ravenna, Nebraska where they worked for the McGills. They then moved to Brandon, Nebraska where he worked on the railroad. They lived in a boxcar house beside the railroad tracks. In February 1928, the family moved in an overland car to southeast Kansas near Fall River in Greenwood County. Susan has a sister and her husband, Ross Hazenfelt living in that area. After living in a house near a creed for a year, the family moved to a farm northeast of Fall River where they lived until november 1934, Wells would dry up in the summer and water hac to be hauled in barrels from a spring for the cattle. The family came back to Nebraska in September 1934 to visit Charles Rowan's father and sisters at Cozad, Nebraska and decided to move back. They sold out in November 1934 and packed a model A car and trailer and returned to Cozad. They stayed with Lewis, Gladys, and Viola until they found a house to live inThey then moved to the Gregg farm in January 1935. It was during the drought and dust bowl days. Times were hard and no one had much. Cows, chickens and a garden helped. They had a big hail storm one time and the lane was full of hail and water. Charles got on his horse and went somewhere. In March of 1940, the family moved to the Martin Place, a few miles north in Roten Valley where they farmed until buying a farm a few miles north of the Morning Star Church in 1954 or there about. Charles bought his first tractor and his first new car, a 1947 Ford, when they lived on the Martin Place. Charles and Susan live north of the church until they moved to Cozad in 1963, Charles health began to fail and he could no longer farm. Charles helped in the Monfort Elevetor unloading trucks of corn and wheat at harvest time. He also helped Demilt at the creamery when he could.
