Knickerbocker officiating. Burial will-be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Gentry was born on Sept. 24, 1921 to Charles Osborne and Mable Beryl (Lynch) Gentry on a farm north of Crook. He was the first born of the family. He went to Valley View School until the family moved closer to the town of Crook where he graduated from Crook High School in 1942. On Nov. 27, 1943 he married Phyllis Traylor of Crook. They were married in the Fauld's Chapel of the Presbyterian Church in Sterling. Rex farmed with his father until he moved with his family to Gilcrest. In 1950 the family moved back to CrOok where they lived while he worked at the Trinidad Elevator in Sterling. In 1952 they moved to Sterling and within a few months settled in at their home on Ball Park Road, Road 37, where he lived until his death. Rex helped build the original part of the Calvary Baptist Church and while working there, he met the man who would become his boss for several years in oil field work. The company's name was South Texas, located on Sidney Ave., just north of Sterling. During the years that he was employed at that address, he worked for five different oil companies. The last company moved their business to Texas, but for several different reasons, Rex and his family decided to remain in Sterling. He worked for Northeastern Junior College for a few years, then went to work at RE-i Va ley School District. While there he became the Maintenance Supervisor and remained with the district until he retired in 1986. In 1979, Rex and his wife bought the Sterling Roller Rink. They renamed it Spin Out, and with the help of their sons and their families, shared good times with many, many peo ple. This meant working with children of all ages and adults, too. The years spent at the Spin Out were very enjoyable for him and his entire family. The business was sold in 1990. The Cooperative Ministry bought the building. His greatest joy was watching all four of his sons play basketball, base ball, and softball throughout their junior and senior high school and NJC playing years. He attended the Sterling town team games, when the brothers were all home during the summers, he often saw them playing together on the same team and these were special times for him. In July 1990, Rex suffered a severe stroke which very much affected the remaining years of his life. Even then, he was often able to watch his grandchildren participate in their various activities, which he especially enjoyed. Rex was grateful to be alive to see three of his sons retire from their teaching careers and he always looked forward to having any of his eight great-grandchildren come to visit. He will be sadly missed by his family. Rex left his earthly body on Feb. 5, 2001, but we know where he is because, for believers, II Corinthians 5:8 says "to be absent from the body means to be present with the Lord." Mr. Gentry is survived by his wife, Phyllis Gentry, of Sterling; son, Bruce Gentry and wife Barbara of Merino, and their daughter, Jildi Chacon and husband Joe, and their children, Jaylin and Brodee; their son, Coby; their son, Josh Gentry and wife Shayna, and their daughter, Harley; son, Keith Gentry and wife Kay of Sterling, and their children Jonna and Jason and fiancee Michelle; son, Royce Gentry and wife Kathy of Greeley, their children Jamie and Tyler; son, Wayne Gentry and wife Chris of Sterling, and their son, Jeff Gentry and wife Ten, and their children Landin, Sarah and Cameron; son, Ryan Gentry and wife Robin, and their children Tanner and Gunner; son, Brady Gentry and wife Caryn, and son, Chad, and his daughter, Mandy; a sister, Eileen Owen and husband Phil of Fort Collins; many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centennial Chapter of the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army. -PAID MEMORIAL
