Description	:	Charles Richard Whitacre, eighty-three, of Glenwood, Missouri died late on Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri. The son of Richard E. and Ruth (Durbin) Whitacre, he was born September 22, 1916 near Omaha, Missouri. He was united in marriage on November 30, 1938 to Esther Eileen Clinkenbeard. The son of Richard E. and Ruth (Durbin) Whitacre, he was born September 22, 1916 near Omaha, Missouri. He was united in marriage on November 30, 1938 to Esther Eileen Clinkenbeard. She survives and also one daughter, Karen Watkins and her husband Dr. David Watkins of Midland, Texas; one son, Ronald Whitacre and his wife Melody of Glenwood. Missouri; one sister, Mrs. Jay (June) Mullins of Omaha, Missouri; one brother, Bryce Whitacre and his wife, Ruth of Unionville, Missouri; seven grandchildren. Michael, Lydia, Laura and Andrew Whitacre and Jessi, Kate and Luke Watkins; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death besides his parents by a daughter, Dixie Jo, 2 infant sons and a sister, Joy Baughman. Mr. Whitacre was a graduate of the Putnam County High School of Unionville, Missouri. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and for a time prior to being inducted into the Marines was employed with Lockheed Aircraft Corp. at Burbank, California. He also worked for the North American Rockwell in California from 1953 until 1965. He purchased the insurance company from the late Russell Tweed in Lancaster, Missouri in 1966. He owned and operated the insurance business there for many years. He was a member of the Christian Church at Lancaster and was currently serving his 29th year as elder of that church. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 19, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Church in Lancaster, Missouri with Rob Green, pastor of the church officiating. Music was provided by organist, Jane Watkins and soloist, Cole Tippett. Special selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "The Love of God." Pallbearers were David Mullins, John Mullins, Rick Baughman, Bob Whitacre, Gary Clinkenbeard and Jack Cooley. Interment was in the Arni Memorial Cemetery at Lancaster with military rites being conducted by the Schuyler Memorial Post #5898 Veterans of Foreign Wars. A visitation for family and friends was held at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 18, 2000.
