Charles Richard Whitaker was born on Jan. 11, 1922, on a farm north of Zearing to Verner W. and Selma A. (Ziebell) Whitaker. He was a 1939 graduate of Zearing High School. He married Doris J. Reed March 16, 1942, in Missouri. They resided in the Zearing area until 1969, moving then to Nevada, where he lived until his death. He was a farmer in his younger years then became a carpenter/builder until his retirement. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church and Tuesday Pitch Club. Fishing, hunting and woodworking were his hobbies. He is survived by his wife, Doris J. Whitaker of Nevada; one son, Dennis (Sue) Whitaker of Nevada; one daughter, Carol Johnson of Winthrop; one sister, Dolores (Dayles) Risse of Hubbard; three grandchildren, Mike (Diane) Johnson of Jesup, Denise (Stan) Reed of Phoenix, and Jill (Tadd) Griffith of Nevada; four great-grandchildren, Carlie and Breanne Johnson of Jesup, and Katie and Grace Reed of Phoenix. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Chet Ryan Mortuary with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church or Israel Family Hospice House. Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada is in charge of arrangements."
