Description	:	Charles Riley Chewning, 90, of Franklinton, NC died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his home. Born in Nelson County, Virginia, he was the son of the late George Washington and Sophia Giles Chewning. Mr. Chewning was a retired CVS truck driver. He was a former member of City Road United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader, Chairman of the Administrative Council, Trustee and Choir member. Read More	Charles Riley Chewning, 90, of Franklinton, NC died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his home. Born in Nelson County, Virginia, he was the son of the late George Washington and Sophia Giles Chewning. Mr. Chewning was a retired CVS truck driver. He was a former member of City Road United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Lay Leader, Chairman of the Administrative Council, Trustee and Choir member. Currently he was a member of Franklinton United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and was a Trustee. He was a member of the Wesleyan Quartet. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at City Road United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Edgar Vigara, Jimmy Adams and Rev. Helen Champion. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sunset Gardens. Surviving are his wife, Melick Blades Bebe Chewning; and his daughter, Diane C. Norwood and husband, Wiley of Louisburg, NC. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary McKenna, Sophie Driscoll and Sybil Chewning; and a brother, Eugene Chewning. The family will receive friends the hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall at City Road United Methodist Church. All other times, they will be at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be Ray Moore, Jim Wiggins, Jack Thompson, Maurice Boyd, Gary Tillotson, Blades Elliot, Tony Norwood and Tim Strange. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 152, Zeb Robinson Road, Henderson, NC 27536.
