Obituary from unknown newspaper: "Telegraph: Charles R Goodrich, an old resident of Epworth and a new resident of Dubuque, died at his home Friday, September 23, 1898. He was born in Pittsfield, Rutland county, Vermont, in 1821. His grandfather owned a large tract of land on which the town of Pittsfield, Mass., now stands. He gave the town its name and his son, the deceased's father, gave the Vermont town the same name. Charles R Goodrich came to Dubuque in 1857 and was a wholesale grocer until 1861, the firm being known as Thomas, Goodrich & Co. In 1861 he went to Epworth and lived on his farm near Robert Wilmot property in town where he has since lived. Mr. Goodrich was married in 1844 to Harriet Fish who still survives him. Seven children were born to them, all reaching years of maturity, of whom Amelia, Mrs. Mary Beed, Alonzo C., and Wm. G., are still living and were with him at the time of his death."
