Description	:	Charles “Chuck” T. King, 93, born in Okanogan, Washington, passed away on January 8, 2017 at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, having been transported from Olympia due to a fall and full hospitals in Olympia. Pneumonia overcame his ability to recover. Chuck graduated from Kinman Business College in Spokane and married his high school sweetheart, Virginia “Pete”. Pneumonia overcame his ability to recover. Chuck graduated from Kinman Business College in Spokane and married his high school sweetheart, Virginia “Pete”. He had a very active life, operating a plumbing business in Omak for several years, and building housing for displaced Tribal Members before construction of Celilo Dam. Most of his early years he grew apples in the Okanogan, before going to work for the DNR, where he retired. During WWII Chuck received an agricultural deferment, and hosted German POW’s who picked his crop for him. He was imminently fair with those young men, paying them when it wasn’t required. Chuck served as a Boy Scout leader, a Deacon in his church, and was very active in the Masonic Lodge, serving as Master of his Lodge and District Deputy. He also served as Dad Advisor for the Okanogan Chapter, Order of DeMolay, positively influencing the lives of many young men. His value to DeMolay was measured one year when he had surgery and unable to pick the crop; DeMolay boys and Masons came from around the state and picked the crop for him, no charge. Chuck loved the outdoors, teaching his four sons the fine arts of fly fishing and hunting, backpacking and camping. Later golf became his passion and he loved sharing that again with his wife, sons and grandsons. As an extension of his years of community service, Chuck willed his body to the University of Washington medical program. He is survived by three of his sons, Charles L., Meridian, ID; Alan O., Tumwater, WA; and James A., Meridian, ID; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. His wife of 57 years, Virginia “Pete” (Byers) King, his other son Richard W., San Diego, CA, and his second wife, Mary (Nutt) King preceded him in death.
