He enlisted in the Army at the end of World War I & came down with the deadly influenza virus which he survived. He owned & operated Philp & Son Seed House in Burns, Wyoming and eventually farmed and raised Polled Herford cattle on the Adams Ranch (on Crow Creek) about 10 miles west of Grover, Colorado.
