Lloyd Bowenman in charge of final rites. Songs for the service were by Mrs. Steven Garland who was accompanied by Mrs. K. R. Moore at the piano. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery. Mr. Butler, who was 81 years old at the time of his death, died at his home here early Thursday morning February 18. He had been in failing health for several years. Last July he suffered a stroke and had been confined to his bed since that time. Throughout his active years Mr. Butler had taken noteworthy interest in the business and civic affairs of the Morning Sun community. For many years engaged in the lumber business, he also was a director of the Iowa State Bank and for 20 years he served on the city council. Charles W. Butler was the son of William and Margaret Wright Butler. He was born October 20, 1872 on a farm west of Morning Sun. Upon his graduation from Morning Sun high school in 1938 he joined his father in the lumber business for 42 years, retiring in 1935. On January 3, 1900 he was married to Allie McClanahan who survives with three sons and a daughter: Merle Butler, Sr., Des Moines, Ward and Otmer Butler, and a sister, Mrs. Nellie McKinley, are dead.
