Year is different than on stone. **************** Cherokee Sentinel, Friday, March 4, 1904, page 1: Death of Charles Sieber Last week as we went to press, we mentioned the accident to Conductor Charles Sieber, wherein he got caught between the bumpers of two freight cars. At that time it was thought that he was seriously hurt; but within an hour after the paper was out he was dead. He had been railroading for sixteen years and this is the first time he ever had an accident occur to him. He was 36 years, 9 months, and 21 days old. He was born in Bushnell, Ill., and came here with his parents thirty years ago, having lived here ever since. he was married to his now bereaved wife in 1890. His wife, one daughter, father, mother, and two brothers are left to mourn his death. Charlie was well liked by nearly everyone, and was popular among his fellow railroad men. he was a member of the Cherokee Lodge Masons, also of Pittsburg Knights Templar Commandery. On Sunday afternoon funeral services were held at the M.E. Church by the pastor, Rev. W.T. Freeland, and not more than half the people could get inside the church. The Sir Knights from Pittsburg headed the procession to the home, followed by Masons from the home lodge, Fort Scott, Pittsburg, Weir City, and McCune, there being about 150 in line, who accompanied the remains to the church, and then to the cemetery. A special train for railroad employees and their wives was brought down from Fort Scott. Conductor Sieber was also a member of the Order of Railway Conductors, in which he held insurance.
