Description	:	Charles W. Haynes, 97, of Peoria AZ formerly Beatrice died on Friday, May 1, 2015. He was born January 14, 1918 at Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School in 1935. He attended the University of NE at Lincoln and graduated in 1940 with a BS in Chemical Engineering and in 1941 received a Master's Degree in Engineering Mechanics. He was born January 14, 1918 at Sterling and graduated from Sterling High School in 1935. He attended the University of NE at Lincoln and graduated in 1940 with a BS in Chemical Engineering and in 1941 received a Master's Degree in Engineering Mechanics. He married Dorothy Krouse on May 12, 1945. He worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh and Lester PA from 1941 until 1946 when he returned to Lincoln. He taught at the University of Nebraska from 1946 until 1956. During that time, he attended Carnegie Institute of Technology where he received his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering. He moved to California where he worked for North American Aviation from 1956 to 1957 and then taught at Montana School of Mines from 1957-1959. From 1959 until 1962, he worked for the Solar Division of International Harvester in San Diego. In 1962, he moved to Orange, CA and worked at Rockwell International on the Apollo Program until 1970. He moved to Fresno where he worked at Cal State University as a professor of engineering until retiring in 1986 and moving to Beatrice. He was a life member of the American Society of Metals and a member and judge for the American Iris Society. Survivors include three sons, C. Willard Haynes of Sacramento CA, Richard A. Haynes of Glendale AZ and Fredric B. Haynes and wife Alice of Citrus Heights CA; one granddaughter, Teresa Hatfield; one great-granddaughter, Remi Rose Hatfield; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and May Swallow Haynes; his wife Dorothy, who died May 11, 2009; one grandson; two sisters; three brothers. Funeral services will be held at Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 with Chaplain Doyle Karst officiating. Burial will be in the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling from 12:00 noon Friday until time of service on Saturday. A memorial has been established to the family's choice. Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling in charge of arrangements.
