Charles Trost passed away June 26th, 2014 at the age of 85 at the Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson, IA. Charlie was born October 15, 1928 in Farnhamville, IA to Rev. Adolph & Laura Trost, the youngest of five kids. They moved to Churdan and finally to Jefferson where he graduated from High School in 1946. He was a part of the National Guard for seven years. Charlie worked for Friendly's Food Store in high school before having a permanent job with Iowa Department of Transportation doing surveying work and road inspections, which he did for 45 years. On February 17, 1962, he married Phyllis Valen during a snowstorm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, IA. Charlie was active in the church, volunteering in many ways with singing in the choir, a favorite. He was always working on something around the house, and loved time with family, playing golf, following Jefferson and college sports, and enjoyed traveling. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis and his two daughters, Lisa (Tim) Sommerer of Ballston Spa, NY and Sue (Matt) Margheim of Mt. Vernon, IA; three granddaughters - Nicole, Kate, and Angela; brother Edgar (Geneva) Trost of Newton and sister Ruth Trost of Jefferson and sister-in-law Joann Trost of Wall Lake, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Herb and wife Elosie Trost, and his brother Paul Trost. The family would like to thank the staff at the Regency for their patience and care given to Charlie, and to hospice for their care given to him and his family during his final hours.
