Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at St. John's Catholic Church in Minden with Father Nicholas Baker officiating. *** Wayne was born on March 12, 1928, near Norman, NE, to Elmer and Mary (King) Bergsten. He grew up in the Norman area and attended school in Norman; then graduated from Minden High School in 1946. He attended Hastings Business College for two years and then went to work for Schwarz Paper in Lincoln. On August 24, 1957, he married Mary Wrin in Minden, NE. They made their home in Minden where Wayne began working for the Pioneer Village. He retired from Pioneer Village in 1995. While at the Village, Wayne worked in maintenance and was their photographer. Wayne was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Minden, the Minden Lion's Club and had served as a district governor for the Lion's. He also was a member of the Kearney County Historical Society and the State Genealogy Society. Wayne was a very neat, gentle and meticulous man with a very even temperament. He also enjoyed yard work and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Mary of Minden; two daughters, Laurie LaVoie and her husband Stephen of Kearney and Karen Shumate of Minden; three grandchildren, Amber Miller and her husband, Bryan, Michael Albers, and Nicole LaVoie. He was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert.
