Description	:	Anamosa Journal - October 13, 1921 Charles W. Appleby died at the home of his son, Oray W. Appleby, Friday, October 7, at the age of 69 years and 4 months. He was a native of Sheffield, Ohio. In the year of 1874 he was united in marriage to Hattie E. Allen, who came with him and located in Sand Springs, IA. There they resided until 1896 with the exception of two years spent in Chicago. His wife died May 3, 1887, and her remains rest in a cemetery in Monticello. Appleby, Friday, October 7, at the age of 69 years and 4 months. He was a native of Sheffield, Ohio. In the year of 1874 he was united in marriage to Hattie E. Allen, who came with him and located in Sand Springs, IA. There they resided until 1896 with the exception of two years spent in Chicago. His wife died May 3, 1887, and her remains rest in a cemetery in Monticello. To this union were welcomed three sons and one daughter, two of whom only survive, Oray W. and Amos H. both of whom reside in Anamosa. In 1889 he married Mary Ann Appleby. Ten children were born to this marriage, eight of whom are living. Mrs. Lizzie Briggs of Davenport; Clarence Edward of Bettendorf; Henry of Davenport; Clifford of Rock Island; Earle and Leslie in the U.S. Army; Raymond and Mary at home with their mother in Davenport. During the many years his home was in Sand Springs he was engaged in the creamery business. Later serving in various callings, being janitor in several of the Anamosa churches. A short time ago the deceased came from his home in Davenport to visit his children in Anamosa and it was while here that the Death Angel called him, while not in the best of health his death was unexpected. The funeral services were held in the M. E. Church in Anamosa, by Rev. L.L.Lockard on the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 9th, and his body was laid to rest by the side of the wife of his youth in the cemetery in Monticello.
