Dorn at the home of the bride, near 12th and Normal. Wednesday night was an occasion of much interest to the large company that gathered to witness the interesting ceremony. Both of the parties to the happy transaction are deaf mutes, graduates of the College for the Deaf at Council Bluffs, and Rev. J.J. Middleton, himself a deaf mute, performed the ceremony in the sign language in the presence of a large company of friends and relatives of the contracting parties. For the benefit of those present who do not understand the sign language, Miss Harriet Boster read the ritualistic service of the Methodist church while the officiating clergyman gave it in the language so familiar with the deaf. It was a unique but touching ceremony and in their quiet fervor the bride and groom pledged their love and fidelity each to the other in language that was all the more touching because of its pathos. Dorn from Denver. (Waterloo Daily Reporter, Waterloo, IA, April 9, 1909) Dorn Funeral to Be at Home Near Waverly on Sunday Waverly, Ia., August 18 - Funeral services for Charles Dorn, whose death Thursday afternoon was unexpected, will take place at the home east of Waverly at 2 p.m. Sunday. His widow and four children survive. (Waterloo Evening Courier, Waterloo, IA, August 18, 1928) Funeral Services Held for Charles Dorn Funeral services for Mr. Charles Dorn, who died suddenly at his home Thursday afternoon were held at the home east of town at 2:00 Sunday afternoon, Rev. C. C. Bacon of the M. E. Church officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Dorn were both unable to hear, and Rev. Bacon was assisted by Mrs. Lawrence Hoffer, of Cedar Falls, an interpreter in the sign language. The pall bearers were also deaf mutes. The body was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery at Denver. Besides the wife, he leaves 3 sons, 1 daughter and 2 step-sons.
