Description	:	Charles E. Hansen, age 81, of Schaller, Iowa died Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 21, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, with Reverend David Lyons officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Eureka Township Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller. Friends may call at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and again on Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will be present on Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00. Charles Emil William Hansen was born January 26, 1924, the son of Emil and Caroline (Sieck) Hansen, near Schaller in Cook Township, Sac County, Iowa. He was baptized at home and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller. After receiving his 8th grade diploma from Cook Township Country School, Charles began farming with his dad, and continued to farm his entire life. Charles married his first grade girlfriend, Wanda Olsen, on September 5, 1945 in Schaller. Eight children blessed their union: Nancy, Wanita, Clarence, Carolyn, Charlie, Jr., Darwyn, Chad and Nora. Charles served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was very involved with his church his entire life. He enjoyed being a member of Walther League in his younger days. As an adult, Charles was a member of Fellowship Club, Men's Club, and the Voters Assembly. He held numerous church officer positions. Because of his love of the soil, Charles was one of the first farmers in Sac County to implement terracing. He took great pride in following good soil conservation practices. He was truly a good steward of the land. Charles loved playing dart ball and cards, fishing with his family and getting together with family for dinners. Charles and Wanda enjoyed being Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus for the Schaller Chamber at Christmas time. Charles and Wanda also enjoyed dancing and traveling. But Charles' happiest times and the dearest memories stemmed from his love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After only the third hospitalization in his life, Charles was called to his heavenly home. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Wanda of Schaller; his eight children: Nancy and Warren Ploeger of Schaller, Wanita and Randy Wiese of Kingsley, Iowa, Clarence and Kris Hansen of Schaller, Iowa, Carolyn Goecke of Storm Lake, Iowa, Charlie, Jr. and Diane Hansen of Schaller, Darwyn and Sharri Hansen of Schaller, Chad and Robbi Hansen of Schaller and Nora and Lance Demers of Bondurant, Iowa. Charles is further survived by his grandchildren: Lonnie and Kathy Ploeger, Lynn and John Wunschel, Lori and Aaron Christiansen, Lance and Julie Ploeger, Leah and T.J. Braunschweig, Robert and Tricia Wiese, Robyn and Derrick Johnson, Lisa and Jared Carlson, Jill and Eric Myrtue, Jeff and Megan Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Holly Goecke, Evan Hansen, Katie Hansen, Chuck Hansen, Mallory Hansen, Nick Hansen, Staci Hansen, Heather Hansen, Kelsey Hansen, Lucas Hansen, Aaron Demers, Austin Demers and Amanda Demers; great-grandchildren: Elle Ploeger, Colton Wunschel, Kenzee Wunschel, Kyler Wunschel, Zach Christiansen, Anna Christiansen, Tyler Wiese, Marissa Wiese, Corrine Wiese, Dexter Wiese, Rylee Johnson, Raigen Johnson, Ethan Carlson and Braedon Carlson; his sister Leona Wallace of Odebolt, Iowa; brother-in-law and wife Earl and Mary Lou Olsen of Ida Grove, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Elery Wallace.
