Description	:	Charles William Jordan jr is the second child of Charles William and Louise (Vogt)Jordan Sr. He was born in Watertown, Wisconsin. At the age of 18, he worked in a brickyard in Watertown and walked barefooted not only to his job,but also behind his wheelbarrow all day. He completed the 4th grade, but received no further formal education.The schooling he did receive was in a German speaking school. He met his wife to be Alida Erickson in a little town by the name of Uehling, Nebraska, a small town five miles southwest of Oakland, Nebraska which is approximately 30 miles south of Sioux City as it is today. Uehling is an incorporated town with a population in 1970 of 231. The county seat was Tekama, Nebraska. This is where Charles jr and Alida were married by a judge on July 16 1881. The next day the wheat was ripe and they started cradling it. What a celebration! Charles' parents lived with them after their marriage. Although Charles and Alida could not speak a common language, Alida learned to speak German more Fluently than her husband. Their first child Willamina Mathilda(married John Grave),was born in Nebraska. In 1883 after moving to South Dakota by covered wagon, a second daughter, Anna Florentine, was born. They had farmed seven years in Nebraska, During this time there was no market for corn and at Fremont they received 11 cents a buschel for it. Now in South Dakota they moved onto and lived on a farm two miles south, one mile east and one-half mile South of the light plant on the southwest edge of Hartford, South Dakata. They lived there one year. It was very wet that spring, and the crops were planted in mud. In 1884 they bought a 160 acre tract for $800 ($5.00/acre). From Wall Lake corner on S.D. Highway #16 this land was two miles west, one mile south and one half mile west, near Wall Lake. Their possessions consisted of three horses,a breaking plow and a cultivator with no tongue, A walking plow and solid comfort plow came later. The first thing they did was to build a sod shanty and later, a basement barn for the horses.During the period (1889-1900) four more children were born. Anna(married Henry Boy),Augusta(married Otto Kroeger),Emma(married Jacob Jorgenson) and CharlesIII.(He was also called Carl.do not know why) Charles Jr died 22 July 1936 at his home in Minnehaha,South Dakota at the age of 79.
