Description	:	Charles "Chuck" William Murray, 83, of Burlington, died of pancreatic cancer at 5:45 am on October 24, 2010 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. He was born on February 13, 1927 in Morning Sun, IA to Charles E. and Fern Craver Murray. Chuck attended school in New London. At age 17 he joined the Navy and was on the USNTC in Okinawa ready to invade Japan when World War II ended. On August 25, 1946 he married Carol B. Sanders in Marshall, IL. She died in 1993. He was born on February 13, 1927 in Morning Sun, IA to Charles E. and Fern Craver Murray. Chuck attended school in New London. To this union three children were born, Cheryl (David) Brookhiser, William "Bill" (Kendra) Murray of Burlington and Cynthia (David) Schroder. After Carol's death he married Fern Wischmeier in Burlington on March 14, 1997, in Burlington. He acquired an additional family including Vicki (Barry) Nute, Donna (Jerry) Ferella, Mike (Tina) Gugeler, and Rhonda (Mark) Lewis. In addition he leaves several grandchildren, including, Todd Brookhiser, Lorie Ames, Heather Parrish, Alisha Dancosse, William Murray, Jr., several great-grandchildren, a niece, Sherri, a nephew, Jim, and great-nieces and nephews. He loved his family and friends, playing cards, visiting and was a craftsman at making furniture for his entire family. Chuck was extremely proud to be one of the World War II veterans that went on the Honor Tour to Washington, D.C. He was honored to be one of the veterans to place the wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldiers. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, V.F.W. Post #10102, Eagles #150 and Silver Sneakers. Charles was preceded in death by his first wife Carol, parents, two daughters, Cheryl and Cindy, one brother, Henry and one sister, Iva. He is survived by his wife, Fern, son Bill, son-in-laws, David (Eva) Brookhiser and David Schroder, combined families and many friends who will miss him very much. Cremation has been accorded. Private Inurnment will be in both Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun and Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington. A celebration of life will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 13, 2010, at St. Paul United Church of Christ with Pastor Dean Moberg officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church fellowship hall following the service. Memorials have been established for St. Paul United Church of Christ and the V.F.W. Post #10102. The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
