Stearns, 76, a longtime resident of East Wenatchee, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 1994, at his home, following an extended illness. He was born July 12, 1917, to Henry O. and Mary E. (Bradley) Stearns at Addy, Wash., where he was raised and educated. He joined the U.S. Army on March 8, 1941. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. He was born July 12, 1917, to Henry O. and Mary E. (Bradley) Stearns at Addy, Wash., where he was raised and educated. He joined the U.S. Army on March 8, 1941. He married Vera Leona Huber on June 21, 1944, at Wenatchee. They made their home at Waterville, where they managed the Waterville Hotel Restaurant. Mr. Stearns worked for the Douglas County road crew until 1953. He then attended business college. He worked for the East Wenatchee Water District as a bookkeeper from 1957 until he retired in 1977. He was a member of Wenatchee Aerie No. 204, Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post No. 10, and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by a son, Gary D. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Lee (Verna) Wise of East Wenatchee; three brothers, Henry of Almira, Gordon of Rock Island, and Donald of Wenatchee; three sisters, Lorna Price of Spokane, Ruby Hovdahl of Malaga, and Helen Riggan of Grand Coulee; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
