Peterson was born September 7, 1884 in Madrid, Boone Co., Iowa to Mons Peterson, who came to the U. S. from Sweden at the age of 21 after serving in the Swedish Army, and Christina (Westbury) Peterson, born near Stockholm, Sweden. Mons drove a coach for D. B. Davidson, Deputy State Treasurer of Iowa. Mons had six sons and two daughters. Charlie was the sixth child. They moved to Dundy County, Nebraska to manage a ranch purchased by Mr. Davidson and then homesteaded. Charlie came to Holyoke in 1907 after graduating from Grand Island Business College. His first job was for the King-Thompson Lumber Company. In 1917 it sold to Sterling Lumber and Investment Company. In 1908 Charlie build his first home. He married Veva D. Patrick October 4, 1908. They were married in the Albert Patrick home and soon moved into their completed home at 203 North Phelan, later owned by Mrs. Harry A. Peach. Four of their five children were born while in this home. In 1918 they moved into their new home at 641 South Interocean, later owned by Marlin and Judy Schliep. Their second son and fifth child, Kenneth Carroll "Pete" was then born. Charlie was Cashier of the First National Bank from 1917 to 1926. From 1926 to 1940 he was in real estate and insurance and was City Clerk for several years. From 1940 to 1947 he was in the Paoli State Bank. In 1947 they moved to California and helped organize the Peterson Investment Company with his son, Charlie E. and younger brother, Ralph A., who were in the plaster contracting business. The Peterson Investment Company built homes and apartments. He returned to Holyoke for visits regularly and stayed long enough one year to build a new post office. It was later occupied by Judge David Colver. In December 1969 they returned to live in Holyoke. Charlie died April 1970. Veva died December 26, 1979. They were members of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of Holyoke Lodge #81 A.F. & A.M. and he and Veva were charter members of Holyoke Chapter #105 O.E.S. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ MARRIAGE At the home of the bride's parents in Holyoke on Sunday evening October 4, 1908, Rev. G.L. Rulison of the Methodist Church officiating, Charles Peterson and Miss Veva Patrick, both of Holyoke, were united in marriage. These young people are well and favorably known in Holyoke and vicinity. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Patrick, highly respected residents of our town. She is a young lady whose many attractive qualities of character enable her to make friends of all with whom she becomes acquainted. Charley Peterson has resided in Holyoke only a couple of years but, in his business and social relations with the people, he has so conducted himself as to gain the high regard of a large acquaintance.
