Description	:	Boy Drowns in Pond Sunday Afternoon about 1:30 o'clock, four boys of Henry Township, viz; Iska Duvall, two of Charlie Witt's boys and Charlie Witt, aged 15, son of John Witt and wife, went swimming in the big pond on the Watkins Farm operated by Andy Duvall. The three Witt Boys went in the water, and before Iska had his clothes off, Charlie Witt had swum nearly across the pond, and when within about fifteen or twenty feet from the bank, he gave a cry of distress, and unfortunately turned and started to swim back. He had not gone far when he sank and drowned, the other boys being unable to give him any assistance. The alarm was given and John Madden and the father of the boy hurried to Keosauqua in the Madden car, for assistance in recovering the body. Willis Luke and Logan Neis were soon on the scene of the accident, and in a vew few minutes, by diving in seven-foot water, landed the corpse on shore. The boy is said to have been a good swimmer, and the cause of the accident is mere conjecture. Funeral services were held at the Witt home at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, June 22, and burial was in Fellows Cemetery near Keosauqua. Charlie was a good boy, and the terrible accident is a severe shock to Mr. and Mrs. Witt and the children.
