Description	:	Charlotte C. Cowan was the third of eight known children of Abel Cowan (04 Oct 1789-30 Jan 1843) and Maria Catherine McKenzie (11 Aug 1803-12 Nov 1887), who married 20 Jan 1826 at Rowan County, North Carolina. The grave marker for Charlotte seems to show her year of birth as 1889, instead of the correct 1839 as given by her death certificate and numerous census returns. I have to assume this was a "typo" by the stone cutter. Charlotte married Aquilla Jones Mock (did he go by A. J.?) (1830-1888) on 28 Mar 1855 at Rowan County, North Carolina. ... Aquilla was a clerk at the time of the 1850 census (when he was living with his parents at Midway Township, Davidson County, North Carolina). Aquilla later was a relatively wealthy dry goods merchant in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. Aquilla and Charlotte were the parents of nine known children, namely: 1. Lela Cowan Mock (1856-1857) 2. Lee C. Mock (1857-1924) 3. Fannie Mock (1860-1876) 4. Mary White Mock (1862-1925) 5. Thomas J. Mock (1864-1895) 6. Charlotte (Lottie) Jenkins Mock Bain (1867-1945) 7. John Richard Mock (1869-1909) 8. Corrine C. Mock Atherton (1877-1953) 9. Claudia Lavine Mock Etting Wetherill (1882-1966) In 1900 and 1910 the widow Charlotte said she was the mother of nine, six living.
