Char was born September 30, 1951, to Floyd and Madonna (Merrill) Simmons, in Moline. She married Gary D. Richard on September 11, 1971, in Russell, Iowa. She owned and operated Char's Dog grooming in Stockton. Previously she had worked at the Walcott Veteranian Clinic, Sears Manufacturing, Snap-On Tools, the Scott County Treasurer's Office, Titan Wheel in Walcott, and was the manager of the Walcott Mobile Home Park. Richard, 57, of Stockton, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at her home. Char was born September 30, 1951, to Floyd and Madonna (Merrill) Simmons, in Moline. She married Gary D. Richard on September 11, 1971, in Russell, Iowa. She owned and operated Char's Dog grooming in Stockton. Previously she had worked at the Walcott Veteranian Clinic, Sears Manufacturing, Snap-On Tools, the Scott County Treasurer's Office, Titan Wheel in Walcott, and was the manager of the Walcott Mobile Home Park. She was a member of the Adventure Christian Community, Davenport, and a former member of the Walcott Chamber of Commerce where she had served as a board member. Charlotte had a great love for animals, she enjoyed cooking, knitting, gardening, canning and her home. She was a loving wife and mother and a teacher to everyone she met. Visitation will be held Monday, August 3, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, Iowa, followed by funeral services at 7 p.m. The officiant will be Tony Liston. Interment will take place Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at the Cambria Cemetery, Cambria, Iowa. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Gary, of Stockton; her sons, J.R., and his wife, Steph Richard, of Walcott, and Daron Richard and Ashley, of Wheatland, Iowa; three grandchildren, Ian, Isaac and Amanda Richard; her father, Floyd Simmons, of Chariton, Iowa; five sisters, Carolyn Major, of Hiteman, Christy and Lee Stephens, of Albia, Iowa, Cindy and David Glover, of Russell, Iowa, Connie and John Bandstra, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Colleen and Tim Beebe of Chariton; and her brothe, Gene Simmons, of Russell, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her mother and her brother-in-law, Bill Major. A memorial has been established in her memory.
