She was 102. Mrs. Hatch was a native and lifelong resident of Gloucester who married the late John F. Hatch and spent her adult life as a farmer's housewife. "She led a very simplistic life and was very content. She did a lot of things you don't see very often anymore, such as making soap," said her grandson, John Weston Hatch. Mrs. hatch kept active and enjoyed tradition. "She worked in the farmhouse until she was 98. She enjoyed quilting and cooked on a wood stove, even though she had an electrical stove right next to it. She said she could control the temperature better," said Hatch. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. "She was very kind and generous, she was a sweet spirit. She wasn't the type of person who would try and grab the limelight or dazzle anyone. She was always a steady influence, a very accommodating person who you could always count," he said. Mrs. Hatch is survived by one son, John Loran Hatch of Gloucester, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at 7 p.m. today at the home of John Weston Hatch in Harcum. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
