Description	:	CHARLOTTE MARIE MALLOY was born April 6, 1924 at Meadow, SD to Dick and Maude (Wallace) Malloy. She grew up on the Malloy farm north of Meadow and attended a country school. She was the Perkins County Spelling Champion in the 7th & 8th grade. As the champion of the 8th grade level, she won a trip to the State Fair to participate in the State Spelling Bee. Read More	CHARLOTTE MARIE MALLOY was born April 6, 1924 at Meadow, SD to Dick and Maude (Wallace) Malloy. She grew up on the Malloy farm north of Meadow and attended a country school. She was the Perkins County Spelling Champion in the 7th & 8th grade. As the champion of the 8th grade level, she won a trip to the State Fair to participate in the State Spelling Bee. Charlotte attended high school in Aberdeen and Lemmon. Charlotte was united in marriage to Jonas Schell on December 10, 1940 at Meadow. They made their home on a farm north of Meadow, which was purchased from her uncle John Malloy. During her marriage to Jonas, they were blessed with 5 children, Carol, Dennis, Bonnie, Pauline, and David. Jonas was killed in 1953 which left Charlotte with a farm and 5 children ranging in ages from 12 to 6. But alas, a dashing young man caught her eye. William J. Smith "Bill" and Charlotte were united in marriage on December 11, 1954 at Belle Fourche. Six more children, Rosemary, Richard, Susan, Donna, Sharon, and Rhonda filled their home with happiness. Charlotte provided her family with a secure loving environment. She loved life and her family. She played hard and worked hard. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering, quilting, playing whist, scrabble, and hosting card parties. She was cared for at home by her family following an accident in September of 2000. Due to her failing health, she entered Five Counties Nursing Home. She passed from this life there early Saturday morning October 29, at the age of 81 years, 6 months, 23 days. Charlotte was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, and served on her local township election board. Keeping her in their fondest memories are her husband Bill, Shadehill; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, David and Meg Schell, Meadow, SD; Richard and Dede Smith, Shadehill, SD; 6 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, Carol Heck, Billings, MT; Bonnie Thiele, Janesville, WI; Pauline and Kenneth Peterson, Aberdeen, SD; Rosemary Dreiske; Donna and Bill Christman; and Rhonda Even, all of Lemmon, SD; Ray Rieker and his wife Connie, Thunder Hawk, SD; 25 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 1 sister, Mildred Thiesen, Lillian, AL; 1 sister-in-law, Barbara Malloy, in Florida She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jonas, 1 son Dennis Schell, 2 daughters, Susan Smith, and Sharon Rieker; 2 brothers, Bernard and Bill Malloy; 4 sisters, Edna Bartel, Helen Hourigan, Grace Hickenbotham, and Leola Schuldt. Funeral services for Charlotte Smith, age 81 of Shadehill, will be Tuesday, November 1, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bison. Rev Gerhardt Juergens will officiate with burial in the Bison Cemetery. A family service will be held Monday evening at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon. Serving as active casketbearers are her grandchildren, Brad and Douglas Peterson, Michelle Pearson, Denise Jordan, Justin Christman, Christopher Dreiske, Debbie Bier, and Jenny Dirk. Honorary casketbearers are her grandchildren, Sheila Cain, Wanda Smith, Jerri Sanderson, Vicki Buchholz, Brenda Nicholson, Robin Haye, Todd and Dennis Thiele, Jennifer Mayforth, Trista Jacobs, Robert Peterson, Kevin and Sharon Smith, Levi and Cody Christman, Maria and Matthew Even.
