Read More	Chauncey B. Johnson Final Rites 14 Sep 1842 02 May 1932 Chauncey B. Johnson was born in Charter Grove, DeKalb County, Ill., Sept. 14, 1842. He passed away May 2, 1932, at his home in Riceville, Iowa, where he has resided since 1904. Chauncey B. Johnson and Susie May Thompson were united in marriage at Sycamore Ill., Aug. 10, 1900. To this union was born one daughter, Eva. The deceased was a soldier in the Civil war. He was in the 105th Illinois infantry. He enlisted in 1863 and was mustered out in 1865. He leaves to mourn his loss, besides a host of relatives and friends, his wife, Susie Johnson and one daughter, Eva King, and seven grandchildren, of Riceville, Iowa. One adopted son, Earl Lettow, and family, of Des Moines,Iowa. The funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, May 4, Rev. Mr. Bodenham officiating. The American Legion had charge of the services at the Riceville cemetery. Close relatives from out of town were George Thompson, Mrs. John Thompson and daughter, Mrs. George Larsen, and Bert Gustafson, of Sycamore, Ill., a nephew of Mr. Johnson's, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wright and daughter, Mrs. Mildred Wisher, of Mason City. Mrs. Wright is a niece of Mr. Johnson's. Mrs. Nora Foster, a niece of Mr. Johnson's; and Mr. and Mrs. Ed McInroy, a nephew, of Dodge Center, Minn., Earl Lettow and wife of Des Moines. Johnson, one of the three last Civil War veterans remaining here, of G.W. Young Post G.A.R .Col. R.T. St. John and Augustus Bettis are the other two. This meager remant of a once numerous Post, speaks all too loudly of the passage of time Comrade Johnson answered the last call Monday morning at six o'clock. The immediate cause of death being cerebral hemorrhage, a climax of contributory ailments from which he had suffered for some years. He had reached the ripe age of 69 years and 7 months. Funeral services were held this afternoon, which will be a military salute, the G.A.R. and American Legion officiating. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank the neighbors and the American Legion for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of husband and father. A. 105th Illinois Volunteers has answered the last call. A message arrived today stating that Chanucey B. Johnson passed away at 6:30 this morning May 3, at his home in Riceville, Iowa. Mr. Johnson would have been 90 years old had he lived until September and he was born in Charter Grove. He suffered a second stroke of paralysis about two weeks ago and has been almost helpless, but was feeling quite well Saturday and remained up rather late as he was expecting his wife's brother and wife, Mr. And Mrs. George Thompson of Sycamore to arrive. He suffered another stroke Sunday and did not regain consciousness. He lived all his life in the vicinity of Sycamore, much of the time in Mayfield, until 1904. His first wife and their little son passed away many years ago and he married Celia Carns who lived between Sycamore and Genoa. Following her death he was married to Miss Susan Thompson, daughter of the late John H. and Mrs Thompson of Mayfield in 1900. After moving to Riceville they farmed for a number of years then retired a few years ago and their daughter lives on the home farm. Mr Johnson has made frequent visits to Sycamore to visit old friends and relatives and was always happy to come back and greet t he familiar faces. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs. Eva King of Riceville, by one half-brother Frank McInroy of Iowa, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at Riceville and the interment will be there. Several relatives from Sycamore expected to attend. Sycamore, Illinois Tribune
