Description	:	Clay lost his sight in some kind of accident, I believe as a young adult. I've never been able to find out anything about when or how. He never married. About 1930 Clay went with others of his family to see a faith healer in Canistota, SD. They camped out on the road. That's where this picture, part of a larger family group, was taken. Clay, at least, was not healed. The Logan Gazette (of Harrison County, IA), 26 Jan 1905, says Clay Norris was attending Commercial College in Woodbine, IA. On 14 Feb 1907, it said he was a bass in the Bethel Church Choir. It seems like he must have been sighted at that time. John Harrod says Clay was very intelligent and a good tinkerer. Even though blind, he could make very fine hand tools. In his last years he was in a rest home in Logan, cared for by his cousin Ruth Harrod (John Harrod's mother). His family lived at 421 N. 3rd Avenue in Logan, Iowa.
