Funeral services according to Mr. Van Meter's last wish, were conducted by the Knights of Pythias at the lodge hall in Chelan, Monday at 2:30 pm. The deceased had been a member or that order for nearly 40 years. Chancey Willard Van Meter was born Oct. 12, 1864 at Springfield, Ohio and departed this life Jan. 31, 1926, at the Deaconess hospital in Wenatchee, age 61 years, 3 months and 19 days. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his death, two sons Lyle and Willard, one daughter Blanche, all of Chelan; three brothers, one at Bremerton, one at Monticello, Iowa, and one at Cashmere. Mr. Van Meter spent the early part of his life in Colorado where he was engaged in railroad word. He came to Chelan in 1903 and was associated with the Lake Chelan Navigation Co. for 17 years. After that he was employed as mechanic in the several different garages in Chelan until Jan. 1 1926, when he became interested in a partnership garage, which was to open February 11. The deceased had been failing in health for the past two months and went to Deaconess hospital Thursday Jan. 28, where a major operation was performed from which he was unable to rally. Mr. Van Meter having lived here for the past 23 years, will always be remembered by his many friends as a pioneer of this section.
