Utterback, aged 66 years, died at his farm home near Hayesville on Tuesday morning. He had suffered a stroke recently but apparently was improving and death came suddenly. Mr. Utterback, better known as “Chell”, had been in excellent health all his life until his health started failing about a year ago. He was bedfast only eight days. He was born on a farm in West Lancaster township on February 19, 1878 and was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Utterback. During his youth he attended the Lancaster School. On February 3, 1901, he was united in marriage to Artie Long and they became the parents of two children, a daughter and a son. Mrs. Utterback preceded him in death on November 26,, 1936. On October 6, 1942, he was married to Mrs. Mae Jones of the White Pigeon community. Mr. Utterback was a member of the Lancaster Christian church. He spent his entire life as a farmer in the community where he was born. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Utterback; his daughter, Vena, who teaches first and second grades in the Sigourney North Ward school; his son, Verle, a farmer in the Hayesville community; four grandchildren, Lois, Alma, Rose and Avis Utterback and four brothers, Lester and Curtis Utterback of Sigourney, Vern Utterback of Hayesville and Elver Utterback of Des Moines. The funeral service is being held this afternoon at 2 o’clock at the local Christian church, conducted by the Rev. L. G. Potter, pastor. Burial will be in the Pennington cemetery, south of Sigourney.
