Description	:	Mrs. Cherry Sutton Turnage, 63, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2015 after a 35 year courageous battle with cancer. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 pm in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in the Ayden Cemetery. Cherry, a Pitt County native, lived her early life in the Bell Arthur community. She was the 8th of 9 children born to Bill and Mildred Sutton. Cherry, a Pitt County native, lived her early life in the Bell Arthur community. She was the 8th of 9 children born to Bill and Mildred Sutton. A graduate of Winterville High School, Cherry worked for the Greenville Police Department and retired after 15 years of service at Burroughs Wellcome and Glaxo Wellcome. Cherry served as an assistant troop leader in Girl Scouts with her daughters and enjoyed being involved in her children’s school and sports activities. She also enjoyed gardening, beekeeping and attending yard sales with her sisters. She was an avid fan of SyFy movies and John Wayne. Family was her top priority and she loved getting together with her brothers and sisters for family gatherings. Her children and grandchildren brought her so much joy in life and she loved her husband Buddy dearly. When Cherry was diagnosed with cancer, her only prayer to the Lord was that she would be able to live to watch her babies grow up. The Lord answered her prayers and for 35 years she lived a fulfilling life watching them blossom and have families of their own. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, “Buddy” Turnage; son, David Turnage and wife, Charlene, of Winterville; daughters, Christy Turnage Mitchiner, of Grimesland and Cherry Michelle Turnage, of Stokes; grandsons, James and Zachary Mitchiner; brothers, Gene Sutton, of Ayden, J. W. Sutton, III, of Greenville, Jerry Sutton, of Farmville, and George Sutton, of Greenville; sisters, Connie Bright, of Greenville, Sue Hansen, of Bethel, Diane Queen, of New Bern, and Debbie Sutton, of Greenville. The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:30 am to 12:45 pm at the funeral home and other times at the home of David and Charlene Turnage in Winterville. Memorials may be made to UNC Chapel Hill Cancer Center, 101 Manning Dr., Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
