Interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Bellwood, Nebraska. Cheryl was born on February 23, 1948, in Columbus, Nebraska, to LeRoy and Ellen (Ryan) Poeffel. She grew up in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1966. Cheryl worked for Dale Electronics for over20 years. On November 3, 1984, Cheryl was united in marriage to Thomas Smith in Columbus. They resided in Columbus all their lives. For the last 15 years, Cheryl has worked as a teacher’s aide at Nebraska Christian School in Central City and also volunteered at the Columbus Christian School. Cheryl attended church at Highland Park Evangelical Free Church. Cheryl loved her family and loved to spend time with them, especially her grandchildren. She liked to go camping and to the car races, and doing crafts and ceramics. Cheryl also loved to read and study the Bible. Cheryl is survived by: Husband: Tom Smith of Columbus, NE Son: Troy (Laura) Bergman of Columbus, NE Grandchildren: Joseph and Claire Bergman Son: Todd Bergman (Special friend: Robyn Bower) of Columbus, NE and former wife Vicki Haddock Grandchildren: Trevor, Hunter, and Aleesha Bergman Son: Tyson (Holly) Smith of Monroe, NE Grandchildren: Shane, Brock, and Aiden Smith Brother: Duane (Christine) Poeffel of Columbus, NE Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews Cheryl was preceded in death by: Parents: LeRoy and Ellen Poeffel Sister: Nancy Beck
