He was born April 6, 1916, in Ottumwa to David Lee and Martha F. Overturf Belger. He married Opal Swearingen on Oct. 10, 1937, in Ottumwa. A resident of Ottumwa most of his life, he was an employee of John Morrell & Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1973. He served with the Army during World War II in Japan, Okinawa and the Phillippines. He was a member of First Pentecostal Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife; a daughter (Living person - Name withheld for privacy); two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Bernard Lee Belger; two brothers, Stephen and the Rev. Paul Belger; and two sisters, Madge Hastings and Opal Winslow. Private graveside services will be today at Shaul Cemetery, the Rev. George King officiating. Memorials may be made to the family. Reece Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
