Chester George Bittner, 52, life-long resident and veteran of World War I, died suddenly early Sunday morning from a heart attack. "Ches" as he is familiarly known to Bellevueans, in company with his wife and son Robert had spent Saturday at their camp north of town where the men had spent several hours hunting. Following supper, Ches retired early, planning to hunt the next day but before midnight he complained of not feeling well and was brought to the home of the family physician, Dr. E. L. Lampe. He was able to walk into the house, but passed away before the doctor arrived there from his office. Relatives and Rev. Father Linkenmeyer were also called. Chester George Bittner was born on August 21, 1893, a son of Louis and Mary Bittner, in Bellevue. He grew up in this community and served his country in World War I. For a number of years he operated a dray line in Bellevue and for several months has been employed at the G. M. Gibson Co. plant. On March 23, 1922, he was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Hinke in Dubuque and they became the parents of one son Robert, who about a month ago received his discharge after completing his missions over seas. Besides his wife and son Robert he is survived by one brother, Grover J. Bittner of Bellevue, two sisters, Mrs. George Zentner of Bellevue and Mrs. Lloyd Wertz of Dubuque. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at nine a.m. from the Kempter-Egelhof Funeral Home to St. Joseph's church, conducted by the Rev. Father Linkenmeyer. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery where Reveille Post had charge of the graveside service. The pallbearers were A. J. Manderscheld, Clarence Ehrhardt, Seaman Blossfeld, Paul Felderman, Wm. Wohlers and Lawrence Ernst.
