Description	:	Chester Routh, 19 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. Bill Routh of the Hebron community, was stuck and killed by fast Burlington passager train No. 8 about five miles east of Osceola shortly after midnight this morning. Read More	Chester Routh, 19 year old son of Mr. And Mrs. Bill Routh of the Hebron community, was stuck and killed by fast Burlington passager train No. 8 about five miles east of Osceola shortly after midnight this morning. Details of the accident are not complete and officers and Burlington officials are still investigating. The engineer of No. 8 reported at Chariton that he hit something, "standing up," near the five mile crossing and for the section men at Woodburn to investigate. A.S. Swan and H.W. Spencer proceeded at once to the scene and after a long search located the body on the south side of the south track some 100 yards west of the crossing about four o'clock this morning. The east bound track at this point is almost a mile south of the north bound track. The men came to Osceola and called harley Miller and Coroner H.E. Stroy. An investigation showed that Routh had been thrown approximately 75 feet by the impact with the engine. The body was badly crushed and mangled. Routh was dressed in overalls. On his person were found several letters, a billfold containing two pennies and a driver's license, which served to identify the youth. He was later identified at the undertaking parlors by his father and grandfather, Jake McVey, of this city. On the north side of the track, opposite to where the body of Routh had been found, were tracks and a place where the grass had been crushed. Blood spots there indicated that there may have been a second person in the accident. Foot tracks led to a cornfield, but at this time no such party has been located. Routh is reported to have been seen during the band concert in Osceola last night by his grandfather. It is thought by some that Routh started to the home of his parents and caught a ride on a freight train which cleared out of Osceola some time before No. 8. The supposition is that he attempted to jump off the train near the crossing and perhaps was lightly stunned. This would account for the fact that he might not have seen the powerful headlights of the passenger train. Another theory, advanced concerning the blood stains and tracks on the north side of the tracks, is that Routh was alone, and was injured and stunned when he jumped from the freight train, if the supposition is correct that he had "hooked" a ride on the train, and later stumbled back on the tracks in front of No. 8. Meantime authorities are attempting to locate Earl lamb, of Woodburn, a friend of Routh's. It is thought he might have been with Routh and also hurt. During the past few weeks Routh worked on one of the county brush gangs. Just recently his parents moved to the farm in the Hebron community.
