Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, September 23, 1948 SERVICES HELD FOR CHRIS SANDERS Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon for Chris Sanders at the First Baptist church. L.L. Ford, evangelist of the Church of Christ of Denver, and O.W. Brock, pastor of the First Baptist church of Holyoke had charge of the services. Mrs. G.P. McFadden sang, "Abide With Me" and "No Night There." She was accompanied by Mrs. Fred Hagemann. Pall bearers were Marvin Cox, Orville Covert, Wayne Covert, Ralph Newman and Glenn Bennett. Interment was made in the Holyoke cemetery. Arrangements were made by the Lewis Funeral Home. Chris Sanders was born in Germany, September 28th, 1866 and departed this life September 13, after an illness of a week, at the age of 81 years, 11 months and 15 days. At the age of 14 he emigrated with parents to the United States and settled first in Iowa, later moving to Holstein, Nebraska where he was united in marriage to Christina Hansen. To this union 11 children, Oscar of Kanopolis, Kansas; Elmer of Orting, Washington; Mrs. Fern Benjamin of Fort Laramie, Wyoming; Orvin, Mrs. Ann Marlatt and Mrs. Edith Brandt of Giltner, Nebraska; Mrs. Grace Patrick and Mrs. Lydia Sporl of Santa Cruz, California; Mrs. Esther Brandt and Emmett of Holyoke. His wife and one son, William, preceded him in death. There are 27 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. From Nebraska, Mr. Sanders and his family moved to Kansas and then to Colorado in 1917 residing on a farm north of Holyoke until the death of his wife, September 1936. He then made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Grace Patrick for a few years and the remainder of his life was spent with his son, Emmett. In boyhood Mr. Sanders was confirmed a member of the Lutheran church. He was a kind loving father and grandfather, always interested in the welfare of his family. He was a good neighbor and always willing to help others. Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Sanders and sons; Mrs. Wilbur Sauers and daughter of Kanopolis, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. O.C. Sanders and son; Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Marlatt, and family of Giltner, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Brandt and son of Harvard, Nebraska; Mrs. Wayne Heinzman and son of Phillips, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sharp of Giltner, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Hansen and sons; Mr. and Mrs. Don Thosen and son of Holstein, Nebraska; Mrs. Fern Benjamin and daughter of Fort Laramie, Wyoming; Mrs. Grace Patrick of Santa Cruz, California; Mrs. Lydia Sporl of Aptos, California and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sanders and family of Orting, Washington.
