Description	:	Christian Friedrich Kaelberer was born at Almina, Wisconsin on December 27, 1895. His parents, Christian and Friedricka Wagner Kaelberer, came to Wisconsin from Germany and in 1896 made another move to North Dakota. The family lived on a homestead nine miles south of New Salem where Christ attended country school. Christ entered the army on June 27, 1918 and was a member of the 275th Field Hospital Company. His parents, Christian and Friedricka Wagner Kaelberer, came to Wisconsin from Germany and in 1896 made another move to North Dakota. The family lived on a homestead nine miles south of New Salem where Christ attended country school. Christ entered the army on June 27, 1918 and was a member of the 275th Field Hospital Company. On September 25, 1919, he married Gertrude Emma Werchau, daughter of Carl and Emma Gruenwalt Werchau. She was born at Sims, North Dakota, March 19, 1898 and was raised on her parents' homestead eight miles south of Judson, North Dakota. Christ and Gertrude lived on a farm seven miles south of Judson. They successfully weathered the depression period and the drought years of the 1930's. One dry summer, when the pasture at home no longer provided grazing, the milk cows were kept in a pasture six miles away. The cows were milked in an open corral and the young boys in the family had the task of getting them into the enclosure. Christ, with his brothers John and Fritz, operated Garfield Coal Mine, north of New Salem from 1938 to 1942. In 1948, Christ entered into partnership with George Maier. Together they purchased the Morton County Implement Company, which handled the J.I. Case line of farm machinery, from Wm. Muske. In 1949, Christ and Gertrude moved to New Salem where he operated the implement business and also farmed for a number of years. Christ and Gertrude were lifetime members of Bethel Church. Christ served on the church board and Gertrude was a member of the Ladies Aid. During the war, Gertrude was also a volunteer for the New Salem Sky Watchers. Christ also served on the Spring Valley School Board and is a member of the John Repsdorf Post No. 91. Six children were born to the couple. They are Eugene, who was born on August 8, 1920 and married Ruth Held of New Salem. They live on a farm south of New Salem. They have two children, Corrie Bumann and Renelle Branson, and two grandchildren, Karla and Ryan Bumann. Arnold was born on May 22, 1922. He married Jeanette Golde of Judson. They reside in New Salem and farm the home place seven miles south of town. Chester was born on March 26, 1924. He married June Anderson of Almont and they live on a farm south of New Salem. They have two children Margie Ziemann and Greg and two grandchildren Nathan and Jonathan Ziemann. Delores was born on March 12, 1928. She married Ernest Kinnischtzke of Glen Ullin. They have four children, Janel Schneider, Russell, Janice Baumann and Rodney and three grandchildren, Annie Jane and Carl Joe Schweider, and Emily Jean Baumann. Delores and Ernest live on a farm northeast of Glen Ullin. Christ Jr. was born on October 4, 1938. He farms north of New Salem and is married to Carol Scheidt Kirchmeier of New Salem. Chris has three children, Dawn Bornemann, Stacy, Tim, and four stepsons Bruce, Bryan, Allan, and Kyle. Marion was born on January 30, 1942. She lives in Belfield, North Dakota where her husband, Casper Berger, and she own and operate Cap's Food Center. Marion has four children, Clint Trautman, Kim Lindbo, Paula and Lisa Trautman, and one grandchild Jennifer Lindbo. Gertrude Kaelberer passed away on November 5, 1973. Mrs. Kaelberer passed away November 5, 1973. Mr. Kaelberer, now retired, resides in New Salem.
