Description	:	Christena was married to John Van Bockern in Jun. 1865 in Ackley, IA. 13 children were born to this union; Hilka, Jerry, Maggie, Albert, Jerry, Helen, Edward H., Harm, John, Ida, Anna L., Henry and Tom. Christena attained the age of 80 years and 4 months. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Mr. and Mrs. John VanBockern were among the well known pioneer residents of the Lennox community. Christena attained the age of 80 years and 4 months. The following is from the Lennox Diamond Jubilee Book. Mr. and Mrs. John VanBockern were among the well known pioneer residents of the Lennox community. These pioneer settlers were both natives of Germany, the former born at Lear on June 6, 1836, and the latter—nee Christene Kruse —at Simonesold on October 17, 1843. Following his immigration to the United States, Mr. VanBockern settled in Grundy County, Iowa. Mrs. VanBockern left her native land and came to America in 1862, also going directly to Grundy County, Iowa. They were united in marriage June 10, 1865 and the couple continued to make their home in the Hawkeye state for two decades before coming to Dakota Territory and the Lennox vicinity. They established their home here in 1885. Twelve children were born to this couple, including Nellie (Valentine), Maggie (Reiners), Albert Van Bockern (who died March 17, 1922), Jerry VanBockern, Helen (Robbins), Ed VanBockern, Harm VanBockern, Ida (Lagermann), Anna (Miller), all of whom born in Iowa, and Henry VanBockern and Tom VanBockern, who were born in this community. Mr. VanBockern passed away May 3, 1898. Mrs. VanBockern died February 17, 1924.
