Description	:	Christian Adam Russ left Eschenau on Aug. 20, 1854, and came to the U.S. the same year. The country he came from was the small, independent German-speaking Kingdom of Wurttemberg that borders with France and Switzerland. Christian worked in Buffalo, New York, when he first came to the United States and it was there that he met and married Elizabeth Hess. Christian worked in Buffalo, New York, when he first came to the United States and it was there that he met and married Elizabeth Hess. His two oldest surviving children, John F. and Albert B., were born in Buffalo, New York. When the boys were young, the family came west to Iowa and settled in the Ackley, Iowa, area. Christian Adam was a farmer and also was an excellent stone mason. His naturalization papers say that he became a citizen on Sept. 24, 1868, at the age of 30. The paper was signed by Justice George W. Clinton. A letter written to "Fred" (his oldest son, John Frederick Russ) in 1900 tells the date on which he came to the US. The documents that belonged to C. A. Russ are in the hands of his great grandson, Albert B. Russ II of Waterville, Minn. Christian dropped the "e" in the Ruess name before or at the time he came to America. Christian and Elizabeth were married Feb. 16, 1862, at the First Church of the Evangelical Association in Buffalo, New York. Christian died at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. The cause of death, according to the death records, was stomach cancer. Elizabeth and Christian Russ had ten children: 1. Frank Joseph Russ,born and died Jan. 21,1863, Buffalo, N.Y. 2. Cornelius Russ. born and died Nov. 27, 1864, Buffalo, N.Y. 3. John Frederick Russ, born May 20, 1866, Buffalo, N.Y., died Aug. 13, 1930, Rochester, Minn., buried at Buffalo Center, Iowa. 4. Albert Benjamin Russ, born Dec. 11, 1868, Buffalo, N.Y., died Jan. 19, 1943, Buffalo Center, Iowa. 5. Son, born and died Oct. 5, 1870. 6. Samuel Henry Russ, born June 13, 1872, Ackley, Iowa, died May 28, 1949, Iowa Falls, Iowa. 7. Elizabeth S. Russ, born Aug. 6, 1876, Ackley, Iowa, died April 21, 1909, Iowa Falls. 8. Salome Russ, born Aug. 6, 1876. 9. Anna Lydia Russ, born Aug. 5, 1881, Iowa Falls, Iowa, died Nov. 13, 1922, Britt, Iowa. 10.
