Description	:	On Thursday morning at ten o'clock the funeral of Christian Starzman, a highly respected citizen of Okanogan County, was held at the Congregational church of Brewster, Rev. O. S. Barnum conducting the services in association with the local lodge of Odd Fellows. Mr. Starzman was born in Germany sixty four years ago and came to this country as a young man of twenty five. Read More	On Thursday morning at ten o'clock the funeral of Christian Starzman, a highly respected citizen of Okanogan County, was held at the Congregational church of Brewster, Rev. O. S. Barnum conducting the services in association with the local lodge of Odd Fellows. Mr. Starzman was born in Germany sixty four years ago and came to this country as a young man of twenty five. He learned the stone mason's trade in his native land and worked at it many years in this country. He spent some years in the coal mines at Roslyn. Thirty two years ago he was married to Mrs. Catherine Beak of Ellensburg and five children were born to that union. The widow and four of these were present at the funeral. There were also three step children, four grandchildren and a cousin, Chris Miller of Brewster Flat. Mr. Starzman came to Okanogan County in 1888 and took up a homestead. There was in the audience, a man who was a neighbor to him thirty seven years ago. When he came to this country he could not write a word of English but by studying pictures, papers and story books and by asking questions he began to acquire a steady store of words. During the past two years when he lived in Brewster was one of the most regular patrons of the local library. His sociable disposition kept him in friends. He was at one time a trustee of the North Star school and also a member of the local lodge of Odd Fellows. His last illness was brought on by prostration while fighting forest fires. His old friends turned out in large numbers and filled the church. The floral display was large, the singing beautiful and the service impressive. The interment was in the local cemetery.
