Description	:	"Christian Jorgensen, 79, Dies at Burnt Ridge Home" The death of another highly respected pioneer of the south Newaukum valley district was reported last week end when Christian Jorgensen, 79, passed away at his Burnt Ridge home Saturday afternoon. His health had not been so good of late but the infirmities of age as last took their toll. Mr. Jorgensen, for 53 years a resident of Lewis county, was one of the few remaining sturdy settlers of that area, which attracted about 50 years ago a number of splendid men into the Alpha, Salkum and Ethel area.... Mr. Jorgensen, for 53 years a resident of Lewis county, was one of the few remaining sturdy settlers of that area, which attracted about 50 years ago a number of splendid men into the Alpha, Salkum and Ethel area. Most of these men and their devoted wives were of foreign extraction. They knew how to work and how to hew fine farms out of the forest into which they went. Mr. Jorgensen was born in Denmark, January 26, 1855. Tuesday would have been the 54th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jorgensen, who were married August 6, 1881. During his active years Mr. Jorgensen served as school director and road supervisor in his district. He had a wide circle of friends among the old timers of that section, as well as many in Chehalis and other parts of Lewis county who respected him highly. Surviving relatives are the widow, Mrs. Sine Jorgensen; three sons, Henry, Adolph and Walton of Onalaska; a daughter, Mrs. Anna Wright of Silver Creek; 14 grandchildren and two brothers, Adolph Jorgensen of Silver Creek and Ferdinand Jorgensen of California. There was a large attendance at Mr. Jorgensen's funeral, which was held at Salkum Tuesday afternoon. Rev. E. L. Whisler of the Ajiune church of the Brethren officiated.
