Description	:	Christian Henryk Misfeldt was born in 1844 in Denmark in the part known as Schleswig-Holstein, which was taken over by Germany. He was trained as a Veterinarian before coming to America at the age of 36. He came to Dunlap, Iowa on the train, this being as far as the railroad went at that time. He worked as a hired hand in the Dunlap area receiving $.25 a day and then $.50 a day during corn picking. He gradually worked his way west, settling in the Moorhead, Iowa area. He bought land from the railroad... Read More	Christian Henryk Misfeldt was born in 1844 in Denmark in the part known as Schleswig-Holstein, which was taken over by Germany. He was trained as a Veterinarian before coming to America at the age of 36. He came to Dunlap, Iowa on the train, this being as far as the railroad went at that time. He worked as a hired hand in the Dunlap area receiving $.25 a day and then $.50 a day during corn picking. He gradually worked his way west, settling in the Moorhead, Iowa area. He bought land from the railroad at $1.50 an acre for 80 acres and later $2.50 for another 80 acres. He used a team of horses, a walking plow, a wooden toothed harrow and a hand corn planter to put in his crop. He borrowed $100 from a local doctor, receiving on $75 the other $25 being retained as interest. He paid back the full $100 the following year. He also had to give a mortgage on his wagon, 2 horses, 2 cows, 4 sows, 25 chickens and walking plow to receive this loan. On 3/2/1881 he married Rasmina Rassusen, who was born 7/15/1855 in Denmark and had come to America at age of 25. They were real pioneers having started housekeeping in a dugout on the farm where they lived until their death. They were baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Denmark and were members of the Ingemann Lutheran Church near Moorhead from the time it was built. They had 3 children: Henry Fredrick Rasmus born in the dugout on Christmas Day 1881; Carl Juhl (b.1883) was handicapped and lived with his parents until their death. He then made his home with his brother Henry and family until his death as an adult. A daughter was born and died in infancy. Christian passed away 12/15/1928 and Rasmina 3/9/1934.
