Description	:	Born in Unterhain, Thüringen, Germany, Christian Julius Lindner (Americanized as LINTNER) arrived in New York City aboard the MAIN on May 25, 1857, which had sailed from Hamburg, Germany. He was fifteen years old, single, and listed as a farmer. He had followed his uncle, Christian Appelfeller, to America from Unterhain, Thüringen, Germany, where Julius and his sister Luise Ida Lindner had been orphaned; Julius had been apprenticed to a tailor in Germany, but he did not want to be a tailor. Read More	Born in Unterhain, Thüringen, Germany, Christian Julius Lindner (Americanized as LINTNER) arrived in New York City aboard the MAIN on May 25, 1857, which had sailed from Hamburg, Germany. He was fifteen years old, single, and listed as a farmer. He had followed his uncle, Christian Appelfeller, to America from Unterhain, Thüringen, Germany, where Julius and his sister Luise Ida Lindner had been orphaned; Julius had been apprenticed to a tailor in Germany, but he did not want to be a tailor. Since someone had taken his and Ida's inheritance from their parents, Johann Michael and Johanne Dorothea Appelfeller Lindner, and because he did not want to be a tailor, Julius left Germany at age fifteen and followed his godfather, Uncle Christian, to America and then to Clark and Champaign Counties, Ohio. His sister remained in Germany, where she lived with her Grandma [Oma] Appelfeller until her grandmother's death in 1857, the same year that Julius left Germany. After Oma [Grandma] Anna Margarethe Appelfeller's death, little Ida went to live with with her cousins, Johann Michael and Juliane Zapf (Zapfe) of Berigau, a very small village located about a mile west of Unterhain and Oberhain. Michael and Juliane Zapf were her brother Julius's godparents. Ida corresponded with Julius and his children throughout her lifetime, and Julius named his one daughter, Ida May Lintner, after his younger sister, Luise Ida Lindner, who was born 7 Jan 1846 in Unterhain, Thüringen, Germany. ==================== On board the MAIN with Christian Julius Lindner were the following, all presumably from Unterhain: W.
