He died at 5 p.m. , Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter Mrs. Mathidlda Quitsch, near South Shore, 18 miles north and two and one-half miles east of Watertown, after an illness of three days. Death results from complications from his advanced years. Mr Kaaz died exactly 56 years after his father , Frederick Kaaz who passed away in Germany at 84. Born in West Prussia Mr. Kaaz wa born in West Prussia, Germany Jan. 25, 1827, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kaaz. He had been a resident of this community since 1891. Mr. Kaaz retired in 1909. He was preceded in death by his wife who died 23 years ago, and by one child who passed away in Germany in infancy. Mr. Kaaz is the last of seven brothers and three sisters taken by death. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mathilda Quitsch, South Shore;Mrs. Emile Richter, Summit; and Mrs. Wilhelmina Michele, Broken Bow ,Neb. two sons, Albert Kaaz Summit, and August Kaaz, Fairbury Neb, 34 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Settled Germantown, Mazeppa The Kaas family was one of the eight German families which settled Germantown and Mazeppa townships, north of Watertown. Lacking less than five years of reaching the century mark, Mr. Kaaz is believed to be on the few oldest persons in Codington county. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon. A service will be held from the Quitsch home near South Shore, at 1 o'clock, followed by services at Mazeppa Lutheran church, with Rev. M. D. Keturaakat, Summit in charge.
